This centennial event promises to captivate the world with 17 days of extraordinary athletic achievements, embodying the values of excellence, friendship, and respect.

    Over 17 days, the world will witness a celebration of athletic prowess and sportsmanship, emphasising excellence, friendship, and respect. A total of 329 medal events will take place across 35 venues in Paris, the Île- de-France region, and various locations throughout France.

    Paris Olympics 2024 dates

    The Olympic Games Paris 2024 commence with the opening ceremony on July 26, followed by the closing ceremony on August 11.

    Competitions kick off on July 24, two days before the opening ceremony, featuring preliminary rounds in archery, football, handball, and rugby sevens.
    Swimming events are scheduled during the first week of the Games, running from July 27 to August 4, while track and field athletics spans the second week, starting on July 31 and culminating on August 11 with the marathon, traditionally the final event of the athletics program.

    Paris 2024 will utilise venues across three main areas: the Paris Area, the Île-de-France Area, and various locations throughout France.
    The Games will feature a blend of temporary facilities set in iconic locales, existing venues, and three newly constructed sites, including the Olympic Aquatics Centre and Le Bourget Sport Climbing Centre.

    The Île-de-France Area, surrounding the capital city, will host 12 venues for Paris 2024, spread across various towns

    •  Château de Versailles: Equestrian, modern pentathlon
    • Élancourt Hill: Mountain bike cycling
    • Le Bourget Sport Climbing Venue: Sport climbing
    • Le Golf National,Guyancourt: Golf
    • North Paris Arena,Villepinte: Boxing, modern pentathlon
    • Paris La Défense Arena,Nanterre: Swimming, water polo
    • Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines BMX Stadium: BMX racing cycling

    • Athletics, rugby sevens, and closing ceremony at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis.

    New events at Paris 2024 Olympics

    Paris 2024 introduces several new events to the Olympic Games lineup, marking a significant expansion of athletic diversity and inclusion. Breaking will make its Olympic debut, featuring B-Boys and B-Girls events.

    Additionally, new events will be introduced in athletics, boxing, canoe slalom, sailing, shooting, and sport climbing:

    • Marathon race walk mixed relay (athletics), replacing the men’s 50km race walk event.
    • One more women’s weight class (boxing), replacing one men’s weight class.
    • Men’s and women’s kiteboarding events (sailing), where the men’s and women’s two-person dinghy becomes a mixed event, and the men’s heavyweight dinghy event is removed.
    • Mixed skeet team (shooting), replacing the mixed trap team event.
    • Men’s and women’s Boulder & Lead combined, men’s and women’s speed (sport climbing), replacing the men’s and women’s combined events.

    In total, Paris 2024 will host 329 medal events, slightly fewer than the 339 events held at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in 2021.
